DoubleTree by Hilton, Boston-Cambridge is located on the Charles River, just west of downtown Boston. This reputable hotel is situated for easy access to all parts of Boston and the greater metropolitan area, including Cambridge, Allston, Somerville, and adjacent suburbs. On its website, the hotel boasts free scheduled shuttle transportation to Harvard Square and downtown, helping minimize the need for personal vehicle use around the city. This hotel also includes two separate eateries. Boathouse 400, which offers full and continental breakfasts as well as an “extensive dinner menu.” Fusion Lounge is focused on casual dining (appetizers and lighter meals) and is accessible via power lift with a bar height of 42.5 inches. In addition to its restaurants, this hotel offers a popular jazz club, Scullers, where show tickets can be purchased and occasional show and dinner bundles can be reserved.
DoubleTree Boston-Cambridge’s parking is offered in a multi-story garage, and there are five accessible up-front parking spots on the first floor of this garage. The door into the lobby from the parking garage offers a touch-free sensor for automatic opening, while the main front door to the lobby from the outside offers an accessible door opened by push-button. The latter entrance also features a revolving power door. Braille signage is included throughout the hotel for the sight-impaired to help navigate the building during their stay. Front-desk staff is friendly and very accommodating, and the lobby also includes a fresh-food market with rotating grab-and-go snack and beverage options.
This hotel is loaded with amenities, the vast majority of which are accessible. On the first floor, there is a business center with five computers available to guests. Computer desk height was recorded at an accessible 38 inches. Also on the first floor is an accessible washroom. On its third floor, the hotel offers a fitness area with accessible washroom. There is no power-accessible entrance to the fitness area. Guests can also enjoy an accessible pool equipped with ADA lift. There is no power-accessible entrance to the pool. Conference rooms are also available, including the Roosevelt Room, which offers a bar standing at a height of 40.5 inches.
Four elevators provide transportation to the 16 guest floors. This hotel offers 19 accessible guest rooms and a total of nine roll-in showers. Hearing-accessible kits are also available by request at the front desk. The first accessible room we toured was Room (509). This room offers a shower tub and shower wand but does not provide a bathroom emergency phone. Its dimensions were recorded as follows:
