Historic  Princeton University, the Fourth Oldest institution of higher education in the United States, founded in 1746, was reviewed for accessibility in April of 2018.

This prestigious Ivy League University has a total number of 8,181 students of whom 5,400 are undergraduate and 2,781 post graduates.

The beautifully maintained campus, featuring Gothic architecture, is more accurately called a suburban college town on 500 acres.opn 24 hours during exams.

Princeton facts to be aware of:

• Seventy percent of students join eating clubs after first year.
• There is a foreign language requirement upon admission.  
• 60% of undergraduates receive financial aid.
• All students can attend if accepted, no student loans.
• Princeton University has received a “Gold” rating for sustainability from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE). The rating is based on campus-wide sustainability progress in areas that include academics, engagement, operations, planning, administration, innovation and leadership. In the 2018 Sustainable Campus Index, based on the most recent STARS report, Princeton received special recognition for ranking among the top 10 campuses for water conservation as well as sustainable purchasing. One notable achievement that helped raise the University’s score is its storm water management practices.

• 26 members of faculty and staff have been awarded Nobel prizes.
• 76 % of the faculty is tenured.

Details about buildings visited are listed below.

• Witherspoon Hall Residential: A freshman housing  structure, provides accessible front ramps on both sides of the building. However there are no power doors.
• Lewis Library:  Accessible front and rear push button doors.  Two levels are accessible from front and rear via elevator.   Lower level offers snack machines and accessible washrooms. Library area is on second floor.
• Fine Hall:  A tall, sky scraper designed building, known for fine math classes is  accessible via elevator, although it has no push button door entrances.
• Peyton Hall: home of the Department of Astrophysical Sciences, was built in 1966. Besides a library, laboratories, faculty offices, lecture and seminar rooms, Peyton Hall houses two telescopes, and provides a push button, accessible front entrance, via a ramp.
• James S. McDonnell Hall, a massive Physics facility, including large lecture halls, classrooms and labs, is linked by a courtyard plaza with the Mathematics Department.  A power front door, ramp, and interior elevator are offered.
• Powers Field : accessible seating signage.
• Denunzio Pool: power doors at exterior entrance, and interior hallway.
• Roberts Stadium: Main entrance gate, is flat and accessible, offering good viewing.
• Clio Hall:  Serves as Admissions Building and Visitor Center, a historical building has been renovated to allow accessibility from the rear.  Also at the rear, an elevator makes all floors of Clio Hall accessible. Three accessible washrooms are available on the third floor with the following measurements:  toilet height 18”, handrail height 34”, and sink height 34.05.”
• Nassau Hall: The first building constructed on campus (1783),  and the original building that assured official establishment of the University.  This structure, surrounded by numerous American Elm trees, now home to president’s, provost’s and deans’ offices, was once the Capital of the United States.  The building is not accessible from the front.
• Randolph Gate: the front gate off Nassau Street, running forward to Nassau Hall.
• East Pyne: built in 1897, and home to the Classics Department and French and Italian language departments has been renovated to provide an exterior accessible entrance.
• Firestone Library: one of ten libraries on campus offers accessible push button front exterior, plus interior, doors. Firestone Library is currently under major renovation. Throughout the library subdued International handicap signs are posted.
• Dickinson Hall: Housing the Department of History and connecting to the Chapel, is accessible to the rear only.
• McCosh Hall: This large 1907 Tudor Gothic structure,  home to Departments of English and American Studies, offers an elevator, plus an exterior, accessible power door.
• Marx Hall: Housing the Department of Philosophy, displays international handicap sign and has a power door.
• First Campus Center: Student center and café.  Students can access mail and get meals here. Elevators, connect floors. There is ramp access from the front and rear of the building.  Power doors are available, via push button. Class rooms and disability service are located here. Also box offices, study centers, theatres, classrooms, student government, and computer clusters are found here.
