The Wyndham Garden: Buffalo Downtown location is a conveniently located and fairly handicapped accessible hotel that was renovated in 2018. It is directly next to the Buffalo Medical Campus, one block from the University of Buffalo Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Science, and twelve miles from the University at Buffalo. Not limited to an option for families of students, the hotel is a great option for visitors to Buffalo in general: it’s located only eight miles from the Buffalo International Airport and the Key Bank Center, and five miles from Peace Bridge. We visited on August 17th, 2024, and rated it eight out of ten for accessibility.

Being in a more populated area, the hotel does not have a parking lot. However, there is a nearby parking garage, and they offer Valet parking. The front door is touchless and powered for easy access into the building, but the front desk sits at a high 48”. All five floors of the building are serviced by two elevators, and braille signage is everywhere inside. Amenities include a business center with one computer (which sits on a desk at a height of 29.75” at the top and 27” at the bottom), laundry area on the second floor, and a fitness center on the same floor – though this doesn’t feature powered entry. The first floor has an accessible washroom, and kits for the hearing impaired are available at the front desk. However, there are no rooms equipped specifically for the hearing impaired.

There are, however, five accessible rooms available, one with a roll in shower. We toured this room, number 401. It was a large suite featuring two queen sized beds, but there was not an accessible peephole on the door. Everything was at a reasonable height for wheelchair access. However, there wasn’t an emergency phone nor a toilet handrail in the bathroom.
