The Ramada West Atlantic City is located approximately two miles from downtown Atlantic City, and six miles from the Atlantic City airport. There are 140 guest rooms with five designated for universal design / handicapped access.
Close to the point of check in there are four international blue signs that clearly mark four handicapped parking spaces. The main entrance to the concierge does not have automated push button doors, but the door is wide and easy to access. The front desk check-in floor surface is smooth and easy to navigate.
To get to the handicapped accessible room numbered 101 on the first floor you will have to travel outside the building where you checked in across the tarmac driveway via two smooth concrete curb cuts. There are smooth concrete pavers leading you to the front entrance with two clearly marked wide doors; they do not have automated push buttons. Inside there are two accessible elevators that will take you to floors one through five. The hallway has firm hard carpet leading to room 101.
In the room their are two queen beds situated at an acceptable height with adequate room to move in-between them and on either side. There are two lamps at an easy to reach distance from the bed and a bedside table with a phone affixed. There are no security / emergency switches on the bedside table. An open wardrobe / luggage rack is situated at a reasonable height allowing for unhindered use.
The bathroom is easy to access through a wide door (36 inches). In the bathroom towards the left is a sink which sits at a reasonable height that is easy to maneuver underneath and side to side. The toilet is situated at an acceptable height but it’s placement in the room does not allow for the best function. There is a grab bar within close reach of the toilet at an unrestricted height. The shower / tub is on the opposite side of the bathroom from the sink. There are two long sturdy grab bars in the shower / tub. One grab bar is affixed vertically and the other horizontally. The shower / tub fixtures are easy to turn on and off, but there is no extended shower wand attachment. In-conclusion the bathroom offers sufficient space for a wheelchair user to maneuver 360 degrees.
All rooms included a 36” inch flat-screen television, mini refrigerator, free local phone calls, and complimentary wireless internet access. Pet-friendly rooms are available if booked ahead. There is a meeting room that will accommodate up to 30 people.
Overall we rate the Ramada West Atlantic City, with 7 of 10 points.
